I believe the Zietgeist that made it to where people on Earth in the Star Trek universe did not require material or monitary wealth. Was in fact the replicator once you have solved mans need to aquire sustance man could focus on other aspects of life that made us happy such as the arts and sciences. Also one big step was the need to no longer have religion once we started to control our own world in a way which was thought to be impossible we no longer saw the need for god/s. Those were two of the main instances that made it possible for peace to be on earth. The moment we have sustainable energy and replication technology we will still be just slightly above cavemen. Still scratching the world to aquire food and controlling other men with the fear of a big magical sky daddy. If science ever figures out how to regenerate body parts without the use of cloning religion is done as well.

Regarding Kim's comment about food replicators in the future....you would miss out on the cooking experience, but it would be pretty cool if you could cook a meal once that you're really happy with, and then "save" it so the replicator could make it again exactly the same way any time you want. That would also make it possible to have Grandma's wonderful chocolate cake just the way she made it, even though she has passed on. Of course, that might discourage people from ever bothering to learn to cook in the first place. Cooking might become something only professionals do-- you might want to download Emeril's chocolate cake instead. I hate cooking, personally, but love watching Top Chef. Think how much more fun that show would be if you could taste the food along with the judges!

Of course, restaurants would probably cease to exist, if you can just download and replicate anybody's meal that you want, at any time. Hmm. But I imagine you'd have to pay a certain amount per download or per replication, so professional chefs could still make good money that way. And that might not actually change cooking as a hobby-- you might want to save money by only replicating your own meals rather than anybody else's.

While the only permanent member of the gorillaz is Damon Albarn, he is definitely not the only contributor; i.e. its not just him in his basement alone. The cartoon work is done by Jamie Hewlett, and the band does tons of collaborations with other artists and orchestras.

Sorry, just had to clear that up before people thought the gorillaz were actually operated by one dude :P.

in regards to robotic musians, in Macross Plus there is a first AI singer, though it's revealed that it's just a hoax until an evil manager uses a hardware that was designed for military drones to make the singer truly AI.

in regards to replicating food, the cooking process is a chemical one, so once you can understand what the chemical difference is between cooked and uncooked pasta, replicating the cooking process would come naturally. in regards to nutrition im reminded of a discussion from another pod cast: "if you had a food replicator that gave you all the nutrition you needed regardless of what food you choose to eat, what would you eat?"

Tom tried to squeak this in, but it got passed by. According to The Good Book. It says- "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil", not "Money is the root of all evil".
The Good Book also says Make Love not War!

If all this is true, you should probably go give a homeless guy $100 dollars, and then go make sweet sweet love to your wives while protesting the war. In Public!

And when the T.V cameras and cops show up shout fourcastpodcast over and over..

+1 for the Gorillaz mention, but you forgot to mention Idoru, by William Gibson. Great read, BTW. How about a Fourcast book club (stepping on S&L toes?) Check out the Avery Cates series by Jeff Somers.
