Judging by the small-sample survey, it looks like poor eyesight is actually being selected for? So maybe the question is what is *beneficial* about seeing poorly. Or is it that we can't really see who we're settling for? (I've had glasses since 3rd grade, but in all fairness, I've been told that my wife is really lovely by people I trust. My wife, for instance.)

I work in neuroendocrinology and work with a lot of scientists who study mating behavior. So Randy's prediction that we will all succumb to the lure of virtual reality sex is in my wheelhouse in a way.

So yes, the virtual reality sex system with Elle McPherson will completely satisfy the VERY strong desire that men have to have intercourse with healthy, young, fertile females over and over and over and over...
However, reproduction is more complex for females and while I'm not saying that virtual sex with George Clooney wouldn't sell like hotcakes, it would not address all the aspects of reproduction that females are attune to. Now if the virtual reality kit included sex with George Clooney followed by the cooing and touch of a new born GC Jr and a symbol of resource commitment from GC Sr. then you might have found the right combination.

Disclaimer: I am not claiming females must produce offspring to enjoy sex or anything of the sort. If it seems like I'm saying women are baby obsessed then keep in mind that I am also saying men are youth and fertility obsessed.

Males and females have two very different strategies as far as reproduction goes. So if virtual reality was going to fully take over our society it would have to cater to both strategies.
