    Water Wars - Episode 2

For our next trick, Scott and I got Leo Laporte of TWiT fame, and Revision3 CEO Jim Louderback to square off with their visions of the future.  You may think Leo is the optimist, but you'd be wrong.  Witness the title of our episode.  It was Jim that has the rosier view of the future. Including the chance for all of us to someday become Ashton Kutcher.  Listen in folks, it's a good one. (We did have some issues keeping Jim's Skype connection going, so forgive the occasional Skype ring or beep).

Wow! Hi Tom. This is the first recording I heard and I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I love these talks and I used to have conversations like this with certain friends. I love how the long term predications at some point evolved into crazy-ass predictions. Leo makes a great point on information being the new form of currency and we're almost already there, but as far as different social and labour classes exists, some form of paper/metal currency will exist in addition to info-currency. Then again, if what Scott suggests before (about people stop wanting to beat the living tar out each other) happens, everyone may progress to the same level.... yeh. as if. Anyway, didn't mean to insert myself into the show's commentary like that. Leo's Mandarin is almost spot-on, btw. Now heading over to listen to the first episode. I LOVE this podcast!! :D

Hi! Long time listener. In fact, I've been listening since episode one. Haven't heard a bad one yet. Keep up the great work!

In fact, I predict that in 98 more episodes, I will have forgotten I posted this and will post it again... including this prediction.

I wanted to take issue with the prediction that cash will disappear any time in the near future. Perhaps it's because the four of you spend your time deep in technology, like I do, and you don't find yourself using cash often. The problem is that we are a minority in the world. The vast majority of people expect to receive real tokens of value in return for their work. These tokens that are exchangeable without bartering in order to purchase what they need have been the basis for growing economies for a long time. Money is transportable wealth in a tangible form and can be used with or without bartering. The guy that mows my lawn and the guy that builds my fence don't have "information units" to exchange, they have labor units to exchange. It can never be that everyone is a "knowledge worker" that exchanges "information units". At least, not until we have machines doing all the manual labor.

The homeless person on the street isn't looking for an insightful comment on their blog, they are looking for cash in their hand. I think a lot of the world operates that way and will continue to operate that way for a long time.

OpenID can work for the "guy that mows my lawn," too.

Forgot to comment on the podcast itself. This podcast has something dreadfully wrong with it that simply has to change! It's monthly :p I know I'm spoiled with BOL daily but I don't think I can wait a whole month for each new episode.

What this podcast deserves is sponsoring to make more of an incentive to feed more of them to me.

    Feed me seymour!

Love the show, guys. Very interesting stuff regarding the future of robotics, technology and resourse shortages.

And about the future of cable tiers, channels and shows, I predict the different networks will become something akin to movie studios. You don't tune into them, you just watch their productions.

Leo, never heard you openly state that you're an atheist before! Love ya even more now!

Leo was very talkative and full of ideas! Its funny how people are different when they are not the host of the show. Not saying that to bash Leo, i like Leo.

I herd someone talking about how China is going to be the leader in the new space age. People on mars are going to be speaking Chinese.
