Hold on, my oil is peaking - Ep. 12
Friday, December 25, 2009 at 2:00AM So we debate whether we'll hit peak oil or not, but we'll all have chips in our brains, so it's cool. Unless that's just the government-run simulation being piped into my chip that's telling me it's cool. Oh the huge manatee!

Hi guys,
I just want to say that anytime I hear discussion of chips in the head comes up I like to refer people to the book "Feed" by M.T. Anderson.

Very fun and provocative read.
Thanks,

A great peak oil doc (NETFLIX INSTANT WOO)
The threat of peak oil really equates to the lack of CHEAP oil, not oil production as a whole. This is why people dismiss Tom's tar and shale excuse for deferring 'peak oil.' If oil production effectively becomes a mining operation (in turn, a terrible energy return compared to the effective free energy we get from free flow) then the equation changes and we've effectively hit the peak oil scenario. However, if Saudi Arabia can ramp up production to sustain the type of world population Randy alludes to then we're OK for the time being, but I agree with Randy and have my doubts.
If I understand right, Hubbert's peak has always estimated peak oil production in the late 90's, early 00's, however embargoes and demand continue to push that back.
I suspect sustainability will be a HUGE issue in the near future; something worth talking about.
Great episode guys! Keep it up!
